Bill Froemke to serve as President-elect for Spokane Chapter of AIA The Spokane Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has elected Bill Froemke to serve as President-Elect for 2006. He will begin his term as Chapter President in 2007. Bill has been active with AIA Spokane since 1991, currently serving a second term on the Board of Directors. 2007 will see the local chapter hosting the AIA Northwest & Pacific Regional Conference in Spokane. That year will also mark the 150th Anniversary of the American Institute of Architects with celebrations and community projects planned throughout the United States. (1.06)
Rod Butler Elected to Cascadia Board of Directors Rod Butler has been elected to join the Cascadia Green Building Council Board of Directors effective immediately. Zeck Butler Architects Honored by Housing Finance Commission Zeck Butler Architects, P.S. of Spokane was honored with a Friend of Housing award presented by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. The award ceremony was held Monday, Sept. 12 at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane. The ceremony was a special event at Housing Washington 2005, the state’s affordable housing conference, which took place September 11-13. More than 500 people were in attendance. Bill Zeck and Rod Butler have devoted the past 21 years to designing and overseeing the construction of affordable housing, and have completed more than 100 projects. They have worked with many partners across Washington including, the Housing Trust Fund, CTED Housing Enhancement, Washington Community Reinvestment Association and Impact Capital as well as numerous not-for-profit organizations to provide livable, efficient and affordable housing. In addition to their professional contributions, Zeck and Butler have also contributed hours of pro bono service to other organizations that aim to improve the housing arena. (9.05)
Rod Butler Named to High Performance Building Advisory Committee Rod Butler, President of Zeck Butler Architects, P.S. has been named to the State of Washington High Performance Building Advisory Committee, established to provide guidance to the Dept. of General Administration in implementation of the recently enacted legislation establishing “LEED Silver” as the Sustainable Design Standard for all major State funded building projects. Rod is a LEED Accredited Professional and is Chair of the Spokane Branch of the Cascadia Chapter of the U. S. Green Building Council. (7.05)
Zeck Butler Architects Designing LEED™ Project in Spokane Former Spokane attorney James Sheehan has bought the old Saranac Hotel building and a neighboring warehouse structure along West Main Avenue in downtown Spokane’s east end. Dave Sanders, who manages the Community Building, says the old hotel structure likely will serve as an extension of the Community Building. Sheahan, who now lives in Half Moon Bay, Calif., is considering a number of potential uses, including a small movie theater and café on the ground level and possibly a youth hostel and office space on the upper floors. The 97-year-old Saranac Hotel building, at 25 W. Main, is four stories tall and has a total of 32,000 square feet of floor space. Zeck Butler Architects is designing the renovation with a committment towards sustainability. The project is slated to be LEED™ Certified. (10.04)

New Columbia Colstor Corporate Office to Open Columbia Colstor will celebrate the opening of their new corporate office building on September 17, 2004. The facility is located at 2730 West Marine Drive in Moses Lake, Washington. The office was designed by Zeck Butler Architects, P.S. utilizing the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) rating system, established by the U.S. Green Building Council. This project strived to accomodate recycled and rapidly renewable materials and to use materials manufactured and/or harvested within the region. (9.04)
